Instagram's pdirect is the social media platform's official independent messaging app. The camera is the heart of communication for any instagram app.

As soon as your message is complete you can toggle through your contacts list to choose who to send or take it public via instagram stories. From your main menu swipe to the right opens a side menu that allows you to access your profile or explore other instagram content directly from its official app. Otherwise, swiping left opens up your inbox with copies of previously sent and received direct messages. There's also a search option to find a specific message in your inbox. Directs from instagram isn't quite as detached from instagram as it might seem. If you want to take full advantage of instagram's features you'll still need the official instagram app. But as temporary private posts take over it looks like old school social media posts are on their way out.
