How to unlock your device from MetroPCS with the Device Unlock App

If you happen to have a MetroPCS phone that you want to use on a new carrier, often times you'll have to unlock it first. Unlocking simply means that your phone is "locked" to a carrier (in this case, MetroPCS) and needs to be "unlocked" before you can use it elsewhere. When you want to unlock a MetroPCS phone you have a few options at your disposal — let's check them out!

This is the only way to unlock a Samsung, LG, Alcatel, HTC, Huawei, Kyocera, Motorola, Sony Xperia or ZTE phone from the MetroPCS network with the Device Unlock App.

If MetroPCS has pre-installed the Device Unlock App on your smartphone, which can be found under the Applications icon, you'll need to follow the steps below to unlock your phone:

Request your unlocking below by selecting the make of your phone locked to MetroPCS and then our Device Unlock App Service. DO NOT choose any other unlocking service. As the process is fully automated, we will be unable to issue a refund if any of the information submitted is incorrect. Once your unlocking request has been processed, we will send you an e-mail letting you know that the phone's IMEI number has been registered as unlocked on the MetroPCS server.

Insert a SIM card from a network that is not from MetroPCS.
Launch the Device Unlock App and select the "Permanent Unlock" option.
The following message will be displayed: "Unlock Approved: Mobile device is permanently unlocked".

What is the Device Unlock App Service?
The Device Unlock App Service is an unlocking service for devices with the Device Unlock App pre-installed by MetroPCS and that cannot be unlocked by inserting an unlock code which is the traditional way of unlocking a phone.
This service permanently unlocks the phone so it can be used with any network provider in the world.

How do I know if the Device Unlock App has been pre-installed on my phone?
If MetroPCS has pre-installed the Device Unlock App on your phone, it will be under the Applications icon on the main menu. If you do not have the app on your phone, you can still unlock the device the traditional way (using the phone's IMEI number) by selecting either our Standard or Premium Service. However, the phone must prompt for the unlock code. If it does not, unfortunately, your phone cannot be unlocked via IMEI.
